An Hour Without Electricity
We all tend to take electricity for
granted. We are so used to having the
conveniences offered by electricity, that when the power goes off, we forget
and try to use our electrical items anyway!
Your Homework Assignment:
Plan to spend one hour without using electricity
at home. You will need the help and
cooperation of your family. This
activity should prove to be an interesting and unusual experience for
everyone. After spending an hour without
electricity, write a well-organized, IBC paragraph about your experience. You must have at least 7 thoughtful
sentences.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND:
·
You need to find things to do that do
not require electricity or batteries.
·
You may divide this hour up into
intervals of 15 or 30 minutes. It might
not work for you and your family to do the whole hour at once.
·
It is not necessary to have everyone in
your family stop using electricity at the same time as you. For instance, if your mom is cooking dinner,
you may not ask her to unplug the
stove. If your dad is doing work on the
computer, you may not ask him to turn
it off.
·
If someone in your family is watching TV
in the same room at the same time you’d like to do this assignment: First, ask them if they might turn the TV off
for awhile. Or, leave the room!
·
You may not use battery operated devices (no cell phones, DSs, iPods,
iTouches, or other games that require batteries)
·
You may sit near a window for light.
·
You may play outside!
·
Think of all the wonderful things you
can do that don’t require ANY electricity! (read a book, draw a picture, play
with Lego’s, ride your bike, play tag outside with friends, do your homework!)
Be creative & have
fun!! J
